The Maltings, a converted 19th century brewery in the centre of the North Yorkshire market town of Malton, is the fifth business park/centre to be awarded a Smart Park Plaque by NYnet Ltd.

Mark Bramhall, owner of The Maltings and Director of Bramhall Blenkharn, one of the businesses residing at the centre said “the prospects for Malton are on the up with new housing, planned supermarkets, talks on bypass improvements and a smart business centre in the heart of the historical market town”.

“Since we began the Smart Park project, which has provided us with a high speed fibre connection to the centre, we have enjoyed nearly 100% occupancy of tenants.  Several of the tenants in the Maltings are expanding and recruiting staff, which is a very promising sign in these financially challenging times.”

The Maltings receive NYnet’s broadband of 10mbps symmetrical service, which means that upload speeds are the same as download; this is hugely important for businesses like Mark’s who need to upload large graphic files.

Tony Armstrong, Managing Director of Armco IT Consulting Ltd, the company that proposed and rolled out the project at the Maltings said “As a NYnet Channel Partner and tenant of the Maltings, it was important for us to introduce this service at the property. We see the value in the products now available to us as an expanding IT support business and can develop our business strategy to take advantage of this opportunity. With the new connection we are able to provide additional services on top of the broadband to help our business customers increase their efficiency or improve their offerings ”.

The Smart Parks project was set up by a partnership between NYnet and York & North Yorkshire Ltd, to demonstrate the economic advantage to the region of offering high-speed, next generation broadband to tenants on business parks, usually only found in city centres.  To date the initiative has connected five business parks across the region with tenants taking advantage of the benefits of high speed broadband.

Andy Lister, Commercial Director of NYnet stated “the partnership has been extremely delighted by the success of the five projects so far.  We will continue to monitor the parks to capture further successes, but already the Smart Park project has demonstrated benefits to not only the park owners, but to their tenants, and to local businesses and communities who are also able to benefit from the broadband connections.”
